Introduction Of Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is the first westerner to become Buddhist nun and is now one of the world's leading senior female Dharma teachers. In 1963, at the age of twenty, she travelled alone to India to continue her studies. The following year, she met her guru, H.E. the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche and became ordained in the Drukpa Lenieage. After many years of intense practice in the Himalyan India region, Tenzin Palmo sought seclusion by embarking on a 12 years solitary retreat in a remote mountain cave. The book " A CAVE IN THE SNOW" by Vickie Mackenzie is based on her life story. Another book titled "REFLECTIONS ON A MOUNTAIN LAKE" collects the dharma teachings by Tenzin Palmo which addreses issues of common concern to Buddhist practitioners from all traditions.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo now devotes herself to Dongyu Gatsal Ling (delightful Grove Of the True Lineage), a nunnery of the Drukpa Lineage located at Tashi Jong, India. THe center offers girls and women the opportunity of education and spiritual excellence. THe nuns practise meditation, study Buddhist philosophy and ritual and learn the English language. As of 2005, there were 35 nuns.

The function of the practice is t - reduce selfish attachment - increase a sense of renunciation - create positive karma by giving and helping - develop loving-kindness and bodhicitta - it refers to all of the Six Perfections of giving, ethics, patience, joyous effort, concentration and wisdom, which are the practices of a Bodhisattva.
